Dog Sport Foundations

This is a 4- week course.

For dogs and handlers that can perform the following skills; sit, down, recall (using the dog’s name), settle in a crate, do not bark excessively. Dogs must be non-aggressive or reactive as some work is performed off leash.

You and your dog will learn:

  • Reward based training systems including food, tug and chase
  • Nose Targeting – useful for agility and other sports
  • Paw Targeting – usel for flyball and dog tricks
  • Distance stays under distractions – good for all sports and obedience
  • Crate games and crate manners
  • Recalls
  • Direction side changes
  • Simple stretches and warm up ticks including spins and twirls
  • An introduction to a new sport each of weeks 2 – 4: agility, disc and flyball

Handler dog teams will require a flat collar, 6 foot flat leash, training tab, a favourite toy – the dog must have some degree of toy drive, a target plate, treats, a portable crate, blanket and mat.

I Do Dog Tricks

This is a 4-week course.

For dogs who have completed a level 1 obedience course. A variety of cool tricks will be taught and you will discover how your dog learns. Dogs must be non-aggressive or reactive as they will be working in close proximity.

You and your dog will learn:

  • Introduction to clicker/marker training
  • 5 methods used to train behaviours
  • Trick foundations – 6 tricks that are the foundation of numerous more advanced tricks
  • 3 or more new tricks per class
  • Dog and handler communication using both verbal and visual cues
  • Back-chaining (turning multiple cues into one trick)
  • Increasing distance and duration of commands
  • Fun games to play at home
  • Tricks you will learn include; spin, bow, say your prayers, weaving between legs, soccer and many more!

Agility for Fun Level I

This is a 6-week course.

For dogs who have completed a level 1 obedience course. Dogs must be non-aggressive or reactive as some work is performed off leash.

You and your dog will learn:

  • Rules of Agility
  • Basic agility handling skills
  • Targeting
  • Contacts
  • Bar Jump
  • Tunnel
  • A-Frame
  • Tire Jump
  • Table
  • Chute
  • Introduction to the Dog Walk

Course sequences will be set up starting class #2 in a basic circle formation.

Please bring proof of vaccinations to the first class.

Agility for Fun Level II

This is a 6-week course.

For dogs who have completed level 1 agility. Dogs must be non-aggressive or reactive as most of this course is performed off leash.

You and your dog will learn:

  • How to handle your dog on both sides of an obstacle
  • Handler’s positioning in the circuit
  • Crossovers
  • Object (equipment)discrimination
  • Handling from a distance
  • Lead outs
  • All equipment taught in level 1
  • Dog walk
  • Introduction to Weave poles

Course sequences will be set up starting class #1 and will be more complicated in formation.

Agility for Fun Level III

This is a 6-week course.

For dogs who have completed level 2 agility and work solidly off leash. Dogs must be non-aggressive or reactive as this course is conducted all off leash.

You and your dog will learn:

  • Angle entries into obstacles
  • Adding depth to sequencing
  • Sending ahead
  • Advanced object discrimination
  • All equipment from level 1 and level 2
  • Weave poles
  • Teeter Totter

Course sequences will be set up starting class #1 and will be more complicated in formation and direction

Agility Games

This is a 6-week course.

For dogs who have completed level 3 agility and want to continue agility training. Also for those that wish to proof their dog’s focus in the agility ring. Dogs must be non-aggressive or reactive as this course is conducted all of leash and dogs are in close proximity to one another on the courses.

You and your dog will learn:

  • Practice all your skills from previous agility levels
  • Test your dog’s ability to listen without the use of hand signals
  • 1-2 new games every week
  • Perform agility sequence with distractions (other dogs close by, balls, toys)
  • Encourage communication while on course
  • Use agility obstacles in different ways
  • Perform course sequences in a “lane” format (close proximity to other dogs)

Fly Ball Level I & II

This is a 6-week course.

For dogs who have completed a level 1 obedience course. Dogs must be non-aggressive, reactive or toy/ball possessive and able to work in close proximity to other dogs while on and off leash. Dogs must be able to pick up a stationary ball.

You and your dog will learn:

  • Rules of Flyball
  • Safe handling over hurdles
  • Targeting
  • Creating drive
  • How to use the flyball box
  • Jumping over the hurdles
  • Recall exercises
  • Completing a full run over the hurdles to the box and back

Flyball is a dog sport in which teams of dogs race against each other over a line of hurdles to a box which releases a tennis ball to be caught when the dog presses on the spring loaded pad of the flyball box then back over the hurdles to the start line.

Level 2 will build on the skills taught in level 1 – Level 1 is a pre-requisite for level 2 unless authorized by the instructor.

Treibball - Soccer for Dogs

(“Try ball”)

This is a 6-week course.

For dogs who have completed a level 1 obedience course. No other experience required. Dogs must be non-aggressive or reactive.

You and your dog will learn:

  • Rules of Treibball
  • Targeting
  • Directions
  • Targeting the ball
  • Moving the ball

Course SizeAll courses are limited to 10 dogs. So book early!

All your training needs such as treats, leads, collars, clickers and toys are available in our Dog Shops.

*Full payment is required at time of booking. Refunds will not be issued once you have attended the first class.
**Cancellations will be subject to a $15 administration fee.
***Make up classes are available for a fee of $10 and will be scheduled at the discretion of Doggie Central. Payment for make up classes must be received prior to the start of the class.
